So I was in New Orleans for my girl Tia’s bachelorette party; the short weekend was kicked off at no other than the MSY airport! While waiting for the other half of our party to land we guzzled VooDoo’s. A concoction of alcohol and fruit juice that packed a great punch! Believe it or not that was the best drink we had all weekend. It was so good that we were in search of another but to our disappointment we couldn’t find a replica that held up to the one we had at airport near the AA baggage claim terminal.
My other Big Easy fave was a mom and pop joint called Mother’s. I ate here twice in the same day. For breakfast I had fried ham, 2 eggs scrambled hard with a waffle and a homemade biscuit w jam. For lunch I ordered a combination platter of Shrimp Étouffée & Jambalaya it wasn’t that pleasing so I ended up sharing food with my table mates. And what I should’ve ordered instead was fried chicken, fried shrimp, potato salad and french fries.
On the last night we ate dinner at the Red Fish Grill. The food at this place thoroughly impressed me. For starters I had a lump crab cake and fried oysters tossed in hot sauce and served w blue cheese dressing on the side (forgive me but these went so fast that I had no time to snap a photo) my entree was a white fish filet served with sautéed shrimp, spinach, mushrooms and grilled onions along side a Po’boy type bread that was so soft and flaky. DESSERT was phenomenal. A chocolate bread pudding served hot, a la mode with white and dark chocolate ganoche poured on top. I couldn’t move afterwards (the bill was pricey but) well worth it.
Missing from my New Orleans food tour was a steamed seafood pot, Popeyes Chicken and, oh nooo I forgot beignets!
